I thought it was time I showed my face on here, so I thought it was time I showed my face on here, so here I am!

I set up my first business in 2010 after being made redundant and although the experience that followed was one of the worst of my life, the decision to work for myself was one of the best.

I have had to go back to working for others since then but this was only either on a freelance or part-time basis because I knew that going back full-time working for someone else was never going to work for me.

And, the toxic work environments I encountered since became an even stronger driving force.

I quit one job with nowhere to go and turned my back on a career in sports journalism that I loved because of bullying and misogynistic behaviour that went ignored.

I hear this so often from other women who have since set up their own businesses and while it's so awful to hear, especially in 2024, it is great to see so many people using it as a springboard!

Rather than let the bullies win, we used it to light that fire, to spur us on when things were hard and they are still the same bitter people they always were and wishing they could be more like us.

So, thank you to those men, who belittled me, questioned everything I said and did and forced me out. I really do mean it though because now I get to make the rules and break them if I want!

What was it that prompted you to start your business?
One of the most daunting things can be staring at One of the most daunting things can be staring at a blank page waiting for inspiration to strike.

Which is why I always urge all clients to make sure they never start anything with a completely blank page.

So whether you are creating blog posts, social media captions or a newsletter always have a bank of ideas for inspiration.

Beginning with a blank page can lead to paralysis - the fear of the unknown and endless possibilities can make it incredibly difficult to actually start writing.

Also let’s be honest inspiration rarely strikes on cue, especially when you need it most.

Instead, you should always have some kind of starting point, even if it’s just a simple outline or a few bullet points.

Having some structure to begin with, even if it’s very loose, gives you somewhere to start and a sense of direction. It prevents you from feeling completely lost and overwhelmed. From there, you can build, expand, rearrange, and refine as you go.

So, whenever inspiration does strike make a note of the idea, whether that’s in your notebook, on your notes app on your phone or both and you will quickly build up a vault of ideas and somewhere to start.

You might chose to ignore them all and write something completely different but by having the ideas you always have something to fall back on if you inspiration fails you.

What are your tips for overcoming the blank page? Let me know in the comments!
Remember you are a business owner, not a content c Remember you are a business owner, not a content creator so you don't want to spend all your time on your content!

Here are my simple tips to help you take back control allowing you to focus on your higher revenue tasks. If you didn't see yesterday's post you might want to take a look.

If you haven't guessed by now, from my content or from the business name, I am all about making things as simple as possible and that also means saving you time and money.

Creating content is one of those tasks that we could easily fill our day with but is it really the best use of your time.

For me social media is an important part of my business but not where I want to be spending all of my time and energy, which is why I am strict with using a timer and making sure I get it done.

Remember done is better than perfect!

And when it is done let it go. Don't revisit it and tweak it (well unless you spot mistakes) just tick it off the list and move on.

Managing your time better will give you the time you need for high-value tasks!

We all fill so many roles in our business this might not hit home straight away so let me explain - courtesy of James Wedmore's The Rise of the Digital CEO training.

If you are spending all of your time doing low-value tasks, like admin, social media etc how can you expect to be earning CEO income?

We all do it at times, we busy ourselves with the 'busy' work, work that we feel comfortable doing. Work that keeps us safe from those big scary tasks that will take us outside of our nice comfort zone.

But by staying safe and warm can we really expect to achieve the results we say we want?

So where are you playing small and staying safe?
